Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk, has announced an increase in its subscription prices across Nigeria. The new pricing takes effect immediately for new customers, while existing subscribers will see the change from January 27, 2025.

Nigeria became the first African country to host Starlink’s satellite-based internet service when operations began in January 2023, according to Aqila Media.

In an email sent to subscribers on Friday, the company explained that the price adjustment was necessary to improve its network infrastructure and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality internet services nationwide.

Under the revised pricing structure, monthly subscriptions are set as follows:

  • Standard (Residential): ₦75,000
  • Mobile – Regional (Roam Unlimited): ₦167,000
  • Mobile – Global (Global Roam): ₦717,000

“These changes reflect our commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to support and improve your experience with Starlink,” the company stated.

Starlink also informed subscribers that they are free to cancel their subscriptions at any time if they no longer wish to continue using the service.

The new hike follows an earlier attempt in September to increase prices by 97%, raising the monthly fee for Standard plans from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000. At the time, the company attributed the adjustment to inflationary pressures.

The move sparked controversy, as the Nigerian Communications Commission initially threatened sanctions against Starlink for the unauthorized price hike. However, the regulator later retracted its stance, leading to confusion about the hike’s approval status.

Facing backlash, Starlink temporarily suspended the price increase and offered credits to affected customers while working through regulatory hurdles.

This latest adjustment underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to address both operational demands and service quality expectations in Nigeria.
